Julia Barnes Shelton
Julia Barnes Shelton has been a community-minded local and committed educator in Dallas for over 25 years. She identified a need for quality full-time childcare options within the city when searching for care for her own young daughters and started her journey with Primrose Schools in 2013. Julia opened Primrose School of Preston Hollow, the first metropolitan Dallas location, in February 2015 and the Primrose School at White Rock in January 2022. Her goal is to provide parents peace of mind knowing they can trust the care and education their child is receiving. Julia and the team at Primrose White Rock believe in the excellence that Primrose delivers on a daily basis, encompassing the whole child’s learning and character development.
After graduating Lyon College, Julia earned a Master’s degree from Southern Methodist University and pursued her passion for education by becoming a teacher focusing on reading and English language, then as an ESL and reading specialist working in both the Dallas and Plano Independent School Districts. Julia holds additional certifications from Texas A&M University, Texas Women’s University, Villanova University and the Texas Education Agency. She is a credentialed Texas Child Care Director and a registered training provider with the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System maintained by Texas Head Start. Since joining the Primrose family in 2013, Julia has served on the national Primrose education committee, the national Primrose Promise committee, and the DFW Primrose Schools owners cooperative board. In addition she has shared her expertise in early childhood education by serving several local groups promoting early childhood advocacy including Vogel Alcove, the Huckleberry Foundation, Child Care Group and the Zero to Five Funders Collaborative. Julia has served on the boards of the Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League, the Junior Group of the Dallas Garden Club, MOPS, International (Mothers of Preschoolers) and the Notre Dame School. She has also been involved in the Junior League of Dallas, National Charity League, the Dallas Symphony Chorus, the Lake Highlands Women’s League, 100 Women of Lake Highlands, and several local school PTAs. Julia and her family enjoy being members of Park Cities Baptist Church, where she has been involved in the children’s ministry since her daughters were infants.
Julia and the team at Primrose understand that choosing childcare is a big decision for parents and want to be able to provide them with peace of mind. Primrose School at White Rock features the Balanced Learning system for children ages six weeks to five years of age. Developed and taught exclusively at Primrose Schools, Balanced Learning blends teacher-directed and child-initiated activities with special emphasis on character development in the schools.
